Taller de bordado Bargello: arte, tradición y geometría. A cargo de Olivia López de @needlebox
Bargello is a fascinating counted-stitch embroidery technique, recognisable by its striking geometric designs and its characteristic effect of volume and texture.
With roots in medieval Europe and close links to Florence during the Medici dynasty, Bargello takes its name from the historic Palazzo Bargello, where pieces of furniture upholstered with this type of embroidery are preserved.
In the workshop, you will learn to work with straight stitches, such as the ‘llama’ or ‘ladder’ stitches, combining and repeating them in different directions to create geometric patterns on fabrics with a uniform weave.
We will explore a technique with centuries of tradition, tracing its evolution from its European origins through to its reinterpretation in Art Deco and its revival in the aesthetics of the 1970s.
As well as learning a new technique, Bargello invites you to slow down. Counting threads, following repetitive patterns and focusing on the movement of the stitches can become a form of mindfulness that helps you disconnect from everyday stress.
A versatile and creative technique that you can later apply to all sorts of projects: cushions, tapestries, bags, clothing and other textile items. Language: Spanish
You’ll also take home patterns so you can carry on working at home and use them on items such as bags, cushions, purses, etc.
