Rosso Cardinale | Drawing and Blending with Embroidery on Wool

One of the most interesting aspects of embroidery is the ability to fill in shapes by progressing from one color to another gradually and organically. Knowing some tricks for mixing colors is important to ensure the success of embroidery and take it to another level.

Dario will explain how to move from one color to another creating a smooth and beautiful gradient. He will teach you how to draw the template to include all the important details that will guide you during your embroidery. You will work on the basic stitches for this type of embroidery and how to combine and use them. You will start by filling in some shapes using two or more colors.

Dario will include in his handouts his Maia poncho, which you will be able to knit and embroider with all the techniques you will learn.

Previous knowledge: No prior knowledge is required

 Required material:

• Yarn: Any type of fingering or mohair yarn, any color. Bring more than one and of contrasting colors to the swatch, as you will need it for the color transition.
• Knitted swatch: Approximately 24×24 cm (10×10 inches) knitted with DK yarn. It must fit in the hoop.
• Water soluble, washable embroidery stabilizer. Can be found on Amazon, e.g. New Brothread Wash Away Embroidery.
• Embroidery hoop: Approximately 22 cm / 10 inches in diameter.
• Scissors
• Marker pen for tracing the pattern
• Downloaded and printed template found in the syllabus. We will send by email one month before the workshop.
• Sharp needles for wool (make sure the wool you use goes through the eye)

Homework:

Knit a swatch of at least 24×24 cm (10×10 inches) in jersey knitting using any DK wool.
