Roosimine is a traditional technique from Estonia. It looks like embroidery, but is created by knitting between the stitches to achieve an embroidered effect. You’ll learn how to knit Roosimine with circular needles.
During the workshop, we’ll be knitting large samples. Midori will bring along patterns of traditional roosimine motifs and blank patterns in case you’d like to create your own design.
If you wish, you can bring your own project featuring Roosimine patterns, such as the Karelia jersey.

- Material necesario:
- Plenty of coloured wool scraps (over 60 cm long) for roosimine
- Main yarn in your preferred weight
- Circular needles in the correct size for your main yarn
- Stitch markers
- Embroidery needle
- Small hair ties
- Scissors for cutting wool
- Homework: Knit a tubular piece (such as a neckband) in stockinette stitch using yarn of your preferred thickness. It should be more than 40 stitches and 20 rows long. That way, you’ll be able to start knitting roosimine straight away in the workshop.
