Isager

The Danish company Isager Yarn, founded in 1977 by Marianne Isager, has a long tradition of supplying meticulously designed patterns and quality yarns made from natural fibers, which are known and appreciated around the world. Marianne and her daughter Helga, co-owner of the company, are also behind a line of renowned knitting books.

Isager’s history began with Åse Lund Jensen, a designer who established her studio in 1960. Her work was based on the Danish handicraft tradition, although it was mostly inspired by Icelandic and Faroese cultures. In collaboration with Henrichsen’s Yarn Mill, she produced a range of high-quality wool yarns. Her favorites, Spinni and Jensen Yarn, are still part of the Isager range today.

Marianne took over when Åse passed away in 1977 and renamed the company Isager. Since then, a multitude of books and patterns have been produced by both Marianne and Helga Isager. Today, the company offers 22 different qualities of various fibers, from wool, alpaca, yak and mohair to cotton, linen and lyocell. Its main yarns are Danish-produced Spinni, Tvinni and Jensen Yarn. All Isager colors are matched to the chromatic range of vegetable dyes, which makes it easy to mix and match qualities in numerous ways, something both Marianne and Helga love to do in their designs.

The Isager company now resides in the former elementary school in Tversted, a village in northern Jutland close to the North Sea and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The company’s retail, wholesale and workshop facilities are located there.

SPONSORED WORKSHOPS

Isager Trio 1

Isager Trio 1 is a blend of 50% linen, 30% cotton and 20% lyocell. It can be knitted on its own, with one, two, three or more strands, or with any of the other ISAGER yarns.

This yarn is available in 22 colours, which blend perfectly with the rest of the Isager colour palette, offering endless possibilities for playing with colours and shades.

Isager has numerous patterns created using Trio 1, including Cherry by Helga Isager and Helga’s Cardigan. In both patterns, Trio 1 is combined with Alpaca 1.

Isager Mulberry Silk

Isager Mulberry Silk is a delicate, lace-weight, two-ply yarn made from 100% silk. It is mainly used in combination with other Isager yarns to add softness, elegance and a subtle sheen to any project.

It pairs particularly well with Isager Spinni or Tvinni (100% wool) and with Isager Palet (100% cotton), as it enhances these more matt yarns with a lovely sheen and a cool feel. When knitted alongside woollen yarns, it provides extra softness without the characteristic fluffiness of Isager Silk Mohair.

Isager Mulberry Silk is an ideal choice for knitting lightweight garments, scarves and babywear. A good example is the Willow scarf, in which Mulberry Silk is combined with a fine yarn such as Isager Trio 1, Alpaca 1 or Silk Mohair.

Patrón Cardigan Tversted de Helga Isager

The Tversted cardigan is a design by Helga Isager, knitted from the bottom up. The front panels and back are knitted flat, back and forth separately. Stitches are then picked up to knit the sleeves, which are finished with wide ribbed cuffs that can be folded to adjust the length.

The cardigan features a shawl collar formed by a double cable pattern, which also edges the front panels.

Patrón Pearl Tee de Helga Isager

The Pearl Tee is a new design by Helga Isager, featuring the same double garter stitch pattern and the same impeccable fit as her Fabian jumper.

It is knitted from the top down with raglan increases. It features refined details, such as ribbed bands on the sides and under the sleeves, as well as a neckline finished with a fine ribbed border and an Italian placket.

It can be knitted using Isager Merilin combined with the new Mulberry Silk or with Trio 1.

If you prefer a lighter version, it also looks lovely with Isager Bomulin and Mulberry Silk.
